About this site
Maratua Island is part of the Derawan Archipelago off the northeast coast of East Kalimantan, in the Sulawesi Sea, Indonesia. It lies close to Kakaban and Sangalaki islands and is ringed by a coral atoll with a lagoon, making it a common base for boat dives around the surrounding reefs. Divers exploring the sandy and reef patches around the atoll have also reported sightings of mimic octopus.
