About this site
Mare Di Papa Antipates lies along the coast of Favignana, the largest of the Egadi Islands off northwest Sicily near Trapani, within the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area. The site sits among the rocky reef formations typical of this stretch of the Tyrrhenian coastline. Divers here have reported gorgonian growth including violescent sea whip, yellow and white gorgonians, and pink sea fans, alongside Mediterranean red coral and star coral on the rock. Mauve stinger jellyfish have also been noted passing through the water column at times.
