About this site

Marsa Bareika is a large natural bay within Ras Mohammed National Park, near Sharm El Sheikh, whose name is often translated as "Blessed Dock" or "Calm Big Pond." The bay is known for several fixed mooring points along its shoreline, giving divers a choice of entry positions, with the most popular dive plan centred on a canyon at the northern end of the bay.

The terrain combines a shallow sandy bowl, a dramatic canyon, and a coral-pinnacle plateau. The canyon entrance lies at around 6–10 m, opening into staggered steps at 12 m, 18 m, and 25 m, with open water beyond providing a striking backdrop. Beyond the canyon, divers keep the reef on their right shoulder and multilevel over a shallow sandy plateau packed with coral pinnacles. A vibrant red anemone at 6–7 m serves as a natural marker for a safety stop at the end of the dive.

The marine life at Marsa Bareika ranges from tiny macro subjects to large pelagics. The shallow sandy bowl rewards patient observers with sand divers, razorfish, blennies, nudibranchs, shrimp, and sea moths. Glassfish and lionfish crowd the canyon entrance, while octopus, moray eels, and scorpionfish are regularly spotted across the reef. In summer, eagle rays and whale sharks are reported in the blue water; winter brings groups of dolphins and stingrays. The sandy beaches of the bay also serve as nesting grounds for sea turtles, and several areas are protected for that purpose.

The dive is accessed by boat, with multiple fixed moorings available along the bay's shoreline.
