Mary's Place

Mary's Place is a well known site off the south side of Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras, known for a dramatic set of coral encrusted fissures and swim-through canyons cut into the wall. Divers descend through narrow cracks in the reef, some barely wide enough for a single diver, before the walls open onto a steep dropoff decorated with black coral, sponges and gorgonians. The site bottoms out around 30.5 metres along the wall, and the crevices themselves are typically dived shallower, in the 12 to 25 metre range. It is rated an advanced dive, with divers noting the deep canyons, narrow passages, and swim-throughs, along with rough water at times and a dependence on weather conditions. Lobster have also been spotted tucked into the ledges, and the delicate corals and sponges lining the walls mean buoyancy control matters more here than at open reef sites nearby.
