Mato Verde lies within the Abrolhos Islands archipelago off the coast of Bahia in northeastern Brazil, an area formed by South Atlantic coral formations known as chapeirões. The islands sit within Brazil's oldest marine national park, reached by boat from the coastal towns of Caravelas or Prado.
