About this site
Million Dollar Point lies near Luganville on Espiritu Santo, in the Sanma province of Vanuatu. At the end of World War II, American forces stationed on Santo dumped huge quantities of military vehicles, equipment, and supplies into the sea here rather than pay to ship it home, and that debris field gives the site its name. Divers find bulldozers, trucks, jeeps, and crates scattered down a slope from the shoreline into deeper water, encrusted with coral growth after decades underwater. The slope runs from a shallow beach entry down to a maximum depth of around 65 metres, and reaching the deeper debris is rated a technical dive. Visibility can be reduced by silt stirred up from the wreckage and slope, and the site is often dived alongside the nearby SS President Coolidge as part of the same trip out of Luganville.
