About this site

Monad Shoal is a submerged plateau off the coast of Malapascua Island in Cebu, Philippines, best known as a reliable spot to see thresher sharks in the early morning as they visit cleaning stations. The shoal reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres, with the shallower cleaning stations near the top of the plateau the main draw for divers, and current here is generally light. Boats typically leave Malapascua before dawn to reach the site in time for the sharks' morning visits. Manta rays and tiger sharks are also confirmed here alongside the resident threshers, and divers have additionally reported bull sharks, eagle rays, mobula rays, reef sharks, and wrasse on the shoal. It is rated an advanced dive, and the early starts add to the demands of the site.
