About this site
Mwana Wa Mwana is a gently sloping reef just north-west of Tumbatu Island, off the north of Zanzibar. The reef slopes from 4 to 10 metres before a deeper sandy area, and it is suited to divers of all levels.
Seahorses much bigger than you will have seen elsewhere live in the sandy area, which is also the place to look for flying gurnards and cuttlefish. Back on the reef there are nudibranchs, ribbon eels and the elusive mantis shrimp, and sea turtles and stingrays also turn up. It is a good site for underwater photography with its rich coral. The best months are October, November, March and April.
