About this site
Nakanohama Shita (中の浜下) is a very calm boat-dive site off Kume Island, Okinawa, about 20 minutes from harbour, with a maximum depth of 10 m and an average around 9 m. White sand surrounds an entry coral head with several smaller heads nearby: garden eels and schooling goatfish on the sand, bluestripe snapper and sergeant majors on the walls, and leaf scorpionfish and ghost pipefish on the outlying heads. In winter the sand holds many small nudibranchs. Suitable from beginner level and suited to relaxed fish-watching.
