About this site
North Reef sits off Sulug Island, one of the small islands within Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park near Kota Kinabalu on the northwest coast of Sabah, Borneo. The site is reached by short boat trips from Kota Kinabalu, part of a cluster of fringing reefs around the park's islands in the South China Sea. It is a beginner dive with a maximum depth of around 15 metres, making it an accessible spot within the marine park. Divers have reported black longspine urchin, Clark's anemonefish, and ocellaris and spine-cheek clownfish sheltering among the reef's anemones, along with doublebar rabbitfish, greenblotch parrotfish, moon wrasse, scissortail sergeants, and zebra lionfish moving over the reef structure.
