Paraiso De Las Esponjas lies off Isla de la Juventud, south of the Cuban mainland in the Caribbean Sea, an area better known for its diving than the Guanahacabibes waters previously noted for these coordinates. Divers here have reported Atlantic blue tang, redband and striped parrotfish, bluestriped and French grunts, and schoolmaster snapper moving over a reef holding massive starlet coral and blade fire coral. The name points to a sponge-rich stretch of reef typical of the island's dive sites, which are generally reached by boat from the coast.
