About this site

The Pedernales Wreck lies off the northwest coast of Aruba, near Malmok, and is the remains of a Dutch oil tanker torpedoed by a German U-boat in 1942. The ship was cut in sections, with the bow and stern towed away for salvage and reuse, leaving a mid-section that now rests broken and scattered on a sandy bottom. The site sits at a maximum depth of around 7.6 metres and is rated a beginner dive, making it accessible even to those with limited wreck experience. It is often combined with the nearby reef and is popular for its easy access from shore or a short boat ride, with encrusting growth established on the wreckage. Divers have reported angelfish, eagle rays, grouper, lobster, moray eels, nurse sharks, pufferfish, scorpionfish, sea turtles, and stingrays around the wreck.
