Peruano I lies in the Caribbean Sea off the northern coast of Cuba, within the Jardines del Rey archipelago area of Ciego de Ávila province, typically reached by boat from the resort areas around Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. The site sits over reef structure holding elkhorn coral, massive starlet coral, and mountainous star coral, along with blade fire coral. Divers have reported reef fish including stoplight and striped parrotfish, schoolmaster snapper, Atlantic blue tang, Brazilian ocean surgeonfish, and yellowtail damselfish moving through the area.
