Pewabic

The Pewabic was a wooden steamer that sank in Lake Huron in 1865 after colliding with its sister ship Meteor near Thunder Bay, off the northeastern Michigan coast close to Alpena. The wreck lies within the waters of what is now the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and its depth puts it well beyond recreational limits, generally regarded as a dive for experienced or technical divers because of the depth and the cold, often dark water typical of that part of Lake Huron. Little of the hull remains intact compared to shallower wrecks in the sanctuary, but its history as one of the more notable collision losses on the Great Lakes still draws technical wreck divers to the site.
