Pinetrees lies along the Kohala coast on the northwest shoreline of the Big Island of Hawaii, a stretch known for lava rock entries into the Pacific. Divers here have reported yellow tangs and dusky surgeonfish around the rocky reef, along with thin-shelled rock crabs and Indo-Pacific rock-boring urchins tucked into the lava structure. Spinner dolphins and short-finned pilot whales have also been spotted passing through the area. Dive access along this part of Hawaii is typically from small coastal entry points rather than harbors.
