Ponta Preta lies on Sal Island in Cape Verde, off the Atlantic coast of this volcanic archipelago known for its exposed points and dark rocky shoreline. The area sits on the eastern side of the Cape Verde chain, roughly 500 to 600 kilometres off the coast of Senegal.
