About this site
Porteau Cove sits along Howe Sound on the Sea to Sky Highway between Vancouver and Squamish, British Columbia. It is a well known shore diving site with a marine park and boat launch, offering several intentionally sunk wrecks along with natural rock reef, and is popular partly because it is easily accessible right off the highway. Depths range from shallow water near shore out to areas exceeding 20 metres, making it suitable for a range of experience levels depending on which part of the site is dived. Divers commonly encounter wolf eels, various rockfish, and other cold water Pacific Northwest species, and have also reported North Pacific spiny dogfish, quillback rockfish, and giant California sea cucumbers here. Water temperatures are cold year round, so a drysuit is typically used.
