About this site
Prince Philip's Steps is a landing and dive site on the north side of Genovesa Island, a remote outpost in the northeastern Galapagos archipelago, named for a natural rock staircase that climbs the cliff face there. The surrounding waters are known for cooler, nutrient-rich currents typical of Galapagos diving, with hammerhead sharks, rays, and large schools of fish reported by divers working the walls and rocky slopes below the cliffs. Genovesa sits well off the main tourist circuit and is usually visited on multi-day liveaboard itineraries rather than day trips. Conditions can shift quickly with current and surge, which is part of why Galapagos diving in general is considered suited to those with some open water experience.
