Principe Das Asturias

The Príncipe das Asturias was a Spanish transatlantic steamship that struck rocks and sank off the coast of Ilhabela, on the São Paulo state coastline of Brazil, in 1916, with heavy loss of life. The wreck lies broken up on a rocky slope near the site of the grounding, having been battered by decades of surge and salvage activity since. Depths reported by divers visiting the area run from shallow sections down to around 30 metres or more, with cold water and current typical of this part of the Ilhabela channel. Because of the depth range, current, and the scattered, deteriorated state of the hull, it is generally considered a dive for those with some wreck diving experience rather than a first timer's site.
