About this site

Punta Sur marks the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, off the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula near Cancun, in the Mexican Caribbean. The point faces open Caribbean water where the coastline turns from the island's sheltered west side toward the exposed east, and it is rated a technical dive reaching around 40.3 metres over reef, with strong current and great visibility. Nurse sharks are regularly encountered here, and divers have also reported dolphins, eagle rays, reef sharks, sea turtles, and stingrays. Divers have noted cave and cavern sections with overhead environments, and the site is described as exposed and weather dependent, with its depth and current adding to the demands of the dive.
