About this site
Ras Ghamila lies along the Sinai coast near Sharm El Sheikh, on the Red Sea between the town and the entrance to the Strait of Tiran. It is a shore-accessible fringing reef with reef flats close to the beach dropping toward deeper water further out, reaching a maximum depth of around 40 metres and generally rated a beginner dive. The reef holds crocodilefish, grouper, snapper, and stingrays, and divers have also reported eagle rays, manta rays, and even whale sharks passing through. Some divers have noted strong currents on the site, so conditions can vary from the typically calm shore entry.
