Red Slave (Peleke)

Red Slave (Peleke) is a shore dive on the southern end of Bonaire, next to the historic second set of slave huts on the island. The entry is relatively easy, down a small slope, though surf conditions are worth checking before getting in. The site holds some of Bonaire's most beautiful soft coral gardens and a drop-off that extends beyond 60 metres (200 feet).

Eagle rays, southern stingrays and hunting barracuda visit regularly, and schools of horse-eye jacks and bigeye scad form swirling silver clouds that larger predatory fish often chase. Currents here can be strong, and the site is graded as an advanced dive. Deeper down, anchor fields lie at 60 metres (200 feet), and heavy chains lead on to a large, ancient anchor at 120 metres (400 feet).
