About this site
Saona Island sits off the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, within Cotubanama National Park, separated from the mainland by the Catuano and Bayahibe channels. The Ruben reef site here is reached by boat, typically departing from Bayahibe, the small town that serves as the main gateway for excursions into this stretch of the Caribbean Sea. It's a beginner dive over reef to a maximum depth of around 16 metres, making it an easy site for those getting started. Divers have also reported eagle rays and nurse sharks passing through the area.
