Saco do Cardeiro sits along the coastline of Cabo Frio, in the Rio de Janeiro state region known for its clear cool waters driven by upwelling currents from the Atlantic. The area around Cabo Frio is popular with divers based out of nearby Arraial do Cabo, with numerous rocky points and coves along this stretch of coast. Divers here have reported banded butterflyfish, blackear wrasse, Brazilian ocean surgeonfish, Brazilian damselfish, planehead filefish, spotted goatfish, and squirrelfish around the site's rocky reef.
