About this site
Shag Rock sits off North Stradbroke Island, a sand island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay along the southeast Queensland coast. Dive operators based at Point Lookout run boat trips out to this rocky reef, an area known for its exposure to the open Pacific swell. The site tops out around 16 metres and is rated a beginner dive, with visibility generally described as good. Divers have reported a wide range of life here, including wobbegongs, nurse sharks, reef sharks and even hammerheads, along with eagle rays, manta rays, turtles, moray eels, octopus, and smaller finds such as nudibranchs, mantis shrimp, ghost pipefish and stonefish. Schooling species like barracuda, tuna and snapper have also been noted around the reef.
