About this site
Atauro Island sits in the Wetar Strait north of Dili, Timor-Leste, an area known for steep volcanic drop-offs and deep surrounding water. Shark Fin refers to a reef formation off the island's coast, reached by boat from one of the small dive operations based on Atauro. It reaches a maximum depth of around 50 metres and is rated as a technical dive here. Divers have reported strong current at the site, along with sightings of barracuda, hammerhead sharks, and tuna.
