About this site
Shiratori Gakeshita (白鳥崖下) is a reef site below the cliffs of Irabu Island in the Miyako Islands, Okinawa. At 8 m a side passage leads into an air dome where divers can surface inside the rock and look out toward the open sea; spiny lobster and cowries live in the passage, and a freshwater spring creates a visible chemocline. Offshore, a coral head is crowded with large schools of scalefin anthias, giving the site two very different scenes.
