About this site
South Reef sits off Mamutik Island, part of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park just off Kota Kinabalu on the northwest coast of Sabah, Borneo. Mamutik is one of the smaller islands in the park, and dive sites around it are reached by short boat rides from the Kota Kinabalu waterfront. The site is a wall reaching a maximum depth of around 10 metres, rated advanced due to strong current, and that current is the main hazard divers deal with here. Hammerhead sharks are seen on the reef, and divers have also reported bannerfish, leopard sharks, and thresher sharks around the wall.
