South Twin

South Twin lies among the Mergui Archipelago off the coast of Myanmar, in the Andaman Sea south of the mainland's Tanintharyi Region. The islands in this chain are remote and largely accessed by liveaboard boats departing from ports such as Kawthaung or Ranong on the Thai side of the border. The site sits over a rocky bottom to a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner dive, though strong currents are a confirmed feature and divers should be ready for them despite the grading. Barracuda and manta rays are regularly seen here, and divers have also reported eagle rays, leopard sharks, whale sharks, trevally, grouper, and various reef fish and macro life such as nudibranchs and mantis shrimp. Some have also noted downward and unpredictable currents, thermoclines, and a washing machine effect at times, so conditions can shift quickly even on what is otherwise treated as an easier dive.
