About this site
The SS British Sergeant lies off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka near Madakalapuva, in waters not far from Trincomalee, which served as a major British naval base during World War II when several vessels in the area were lost to Japanese air attacks in 1942. The wreck rests on a sand and wreckage bottom at a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported lionfish around the structure. Trincomalee continues to serve as a departure point for boat trips out to this and other offshore wreck sites along the coast.
