Star Reef lies within the Great Barrier Reef system off the coast of Queensland, in the far northern reef sections well offshore from the Cape York region. This part of the reef is generally accessed by liveaboard rather than day boats out of the more southerly hubs like Cairns or Port Douglas, given the distance involved.
