About this site
The Sunken Cemetery lies off the coast of Camiguin Island, near the town of Bonbon, in the Mindanao region of the Philippines. A large cross marks the site from the surface, commemorating a cemetery that was submerged after volcanic activity and subsidence in the late 1800s pushed the old graveyard below sea level. Divers and snorkelers visit to see the remains of tombstones and structures scattered across the sandy seabed near the cross, with the site reaching a maximum depth of around 25 metres and rated a beginner dive. It sits close to shore and is commonly reached by boat from the nearby town. Divers have also reported frogfish and triggerfish around the site.
