About this site
The Susan B. Anthony was a United States Army transport ship that struck a mine off the Normandy coast on 7 June 1944, the day after the D-Day landings, while approaching the invasion beaches with troops aboard. Remarkably, everyone on board was evacuated safely before she went down. The wreck now lies broken on the seabed off Calvados, and it is dived mainly as a piece of invasion history rather than for marine life or reef structure. Visibility and current in this stretch of the Channel can be unpredictable, and the site is generally treated as one for divers with wreck experience given the depth and the exposed open-water setting.
