About this site
Texas is a dive site off the western and southernmost tip of Roatan, Honduras, sitting at the confluence of two ocean currents where the north and south shore currents meet over a plateau stretching out from the island. Its name reflects the outsized scale of everything associated with it, from the sweeping terrain to the marine life found there.
The site drops to 27 m (90 ft) and presents a wall profile with a broad flat section — the "Texas flats" — giving way to steeper terrain. The strong, meeting currents have driven the growth of enormous barrel sponges, some large enough to swim inside, alongside healthy soft corals and snapper moving through the current.
Texas is one of the only spots around Roatan where the sargassum triggerfish is reliably found, and horseye jacks and barracudas are also present. The site is diveable year-round, with water temperatures running 26–29°C.

Access is by boat. Surface conditions and current can be stronger here than at typical West End sites, and a reverse profile is required. The depth and strong, variable currents make Texas suitable for experienced, advanced divers with solid buoyancy control and comfort in moving water; the Deep Diver Specialty is recommended preparation.
