About this site
The Caves sits off Alonnisos, one of the Sporades islands in the western Aegean off the coast of Thessaly, within the waters of the Alonnisos Marine Park, an area established to protect its marine environment. The site takes its name from the small underwater openings and rocky formations carved into the limestone cliffs along this stretch of coast. Divers here have reported Mediterranean moray and Mediterranean rainbow wrasse moving among the rock, along with sea strawberry, sunset cup coral, violescent sea-whip, and red sea squirt encrusting the walls and crevices.
