The Claris lies off the coast of South Australia, near the Fleurieu Peninsula and the approaches to Gulf St Vincent, an area with a number of scattered shipwrecks along the old shipping routes into Adelaide. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 28 metres. Divers visiting this stretch of coast typically reach the wreck by boat from the nearby peninsula towns.
