About this site
Emerald Cave, known locally as Tham Morakot, sits on Koh Mook off the Trang coast of southern Thailand, on the Andaman Sea side of the country. Reaching the hidden lagoon inside means swimming through a limestone tunnel from the sea, and the site is generally rated an intermediate dive with a maximum depth of around 8 metres over a rocky bottom, with medium current and good visibility. The passage is dark for a stretch before opening into a sunlit inner beach enclosed by cliffs. Along the way and around the surrounding rock, divers commonly encounter angelfish, fusiliers, manta rays, nudibranchs, parrotfish, pipefish, and snapper, and some have also reported barracuda, clownfish, damselfish, grouper, leopard sharks, mantis shrimp, seahorses, trevally, and even whale sharks passing through.
