About this site
The Tobruk lies off Townsville on the central Queensland coast, in the Coral Sea waters near the Great Barrier Reef. It is a former Australian Navy landing ship, deliberately scuttled in 2018 as a purpose-built dive wreck after decommissioning. The vessel sits on a sandy bottom and was prepared with cut access points to allow divers to move through its decks, splitting into two sections on the seabed some time after sinking due to structural settling. It is reached by boat from Townsville and has become a popular wreck dive destination for the region since being sunk.
