About this site
Tokong Laut sits among the Perhentian Islands off the coast of Terengganu in Malaysia, its name coming from the Malay term for a sea temple or rock, referring to the granite formation rising near the islands. Boats to the site typically launch from Kuala Besut on the mainland, out into the South China Sea. It is a rocky dive reaching a maximum depth of around 24 metres, rated advanced due to strong current, with deeper water adding to the challenge. Barracuda, pufferfish, trevally, and whale sharks are found here, and divers have also reported batfish, bumphead parrotfish, clownfish, fusiliers, moray eels, napoleon wrasse, nudibranchs, snapper, squid, thresher sharks, and tuna around the rock.
