About this site
U-853 is a German U-boat that lies off the coast near the Rhode Island and Connecticut border, sunk in the closing days of World War II in May 1945 after a depth charge attack by US Navy and Coast Guard vessels. The wreck rests at a maximum depth of around 33.5 metres and is considered an advanced dive. It is a popular technical and recreational deep wreck destination in the region, drawing divers interested in its wartime history.
