About this site
The Um El Faroud is a former Libyan tanker scuttled off Qrendi on the southern coast of Malta in 1998, after an earlier explosion at Malta Dry Docks had killed several workers. It was deliberately sunk to create an artificial reef and dive attraction, and it settled upright on the seabed before storm damage later broke the hull into sections. The site tops out at around 12 metres and is generally considered an intermediate dive, drawing divers who want to explore a large ship structure rather than a natural reef.
