About this site
Umm Gamar is an island reef site off the coast near Hurghada in Egypt's Red Sea Governorate, reached by boat from Hurghada dive centers. The reef surrounds a small island, with a wall dropping to a maximum depth of around 100 metres, though the site is rated for beginners and much of the diving stays well above that. Batfish and Napoleon wrasse are regularly seen along the wall, and divers have also reported bannerfish, barracuda, fusiliers, grouper, lionfish, manta rays, sweetlips, triggerfish, and tuna on the surrounding reef. Local operators run day trips out from the mainland coast to dive its plateaus and sloping structure.
