About this site
The USS Glennon was a United States Navy destroyer that struck a mine off Utah Beach in the days following the D-Day landings in June 1944, and later suffered further damage from shore battery fire before sinking. It now lies off the Calvados coast of Normandy, in the waters near the invasion beaches where much of the Allied naval activity of June 1944 took place. The wreck is a recognised part of the D-Day heritage sites scattered along this stretch of coast, drawn to divers with an interest in wartime history. Given its exposed position off the invasion beaches, conditions in this part of the Channel can involve current and limited visibility.
