About this site
Skomer Island sits off the southwest tip of Pembrokeshire in west Wales, separated from the mainland by Jack Sound and surrounded by cold, tidal Celtic Sea waters. The island and its surrounding waters form a Marine Conservation Zone, one of the earliest designated in Wales, reflecting the rocky reefs and cliffs that ring the coastline here. Diving here reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated advanced, with tidal flow around the island a real factor in the dive. Divers have also reported the risk of drifting off into open sea if caught out by the currents, so timing a dive to the tides matters here.
