About this site
Whale Island lies off the coast of Baja California Sur along the Gulf of California, in the waters near Loreto within the Bay of Loreto region. This part of the gulf is characterized by rocky islands rising from deep water, reached by boat from mainland towns along the peninsula's eastern shore. The reef here is rated a beginner dive, and divers have reported sea turtles around the site.
