Wheat Fields lies in the Vatu-i-ra Passage, the channel of open water between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu that is known for strong tidal flows funneling between Fiji's two main islands. The area is reached by boat, typically from operators on the Coral Coast, Rakiraki, or Savusavu side of the passage. Vatu-i-ra sits at the meeting point of the Bligh Water and the greater passage system, a stretch of current-swept channel between the islands.
