Zenobia Shipwreck

The Zenobia is a Swedish-built ferry that sank off Larnaca, Cyprus in 1980 on her maiden voyage after a computer-controlled ballast system malfunction caused her to list and eventually capsize. She now lies on her port side in open water not far from Larnaca harbor, with her cargo of lorries and trailers still visible inside the holds. The wreck is large, over 170 metres in length, and its scale means different sections are accessed at different depths, with the deepest points reaching around 42 metres over a wreck bottom, a range verified as a technical dive. It is regularly ranked among the largest and most complete accessible wreck dives in the world, drawing both recreational divers exploring the upper decks and technical divers penetrating deeper into the interior. Marine life including groupers, barracuda, and moray eels has settled around the hull over the decades. Because of its size and depth, penetration into the lower sections is treated as technical diving.
