The Almirante is an older wreck off the coast of Miami, a 200 ft (61 m) steel refrigerated freighter. She was scuttled in 1974 after her owners abandoned her on the Miami River, and the City of Miami removed her superstructure for scrap and towed her out to sea.
She sits upright in about 135 ft (41 m) of water, with her stern twisted to port by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Many areas of twisted metal are good for exploring, and sea life has since moved back in. Red gorgonians, goliath groupers and many other pelagic species call the ship home.
