Overheat Reef is a reef dive located off Sandy Bay, Roatan, reached by a 15–20 minute boat ride. The top of the reef sits at 15–20 ft. (4.5–6 m), and the dive can begin with an immediate drop down the wall or a more gradual descent through varying topography, including sand channels, swim-throughs, and the wall itself. The northern section of this wall is noted as one of the healthier coral areas within the Roatan Marine Park.
The reef holds a variety of marine life: turtles are often found resting in the corals, eels hide under ledges and also swim freely in the open, and the shallows regularly produce large snapper and squid. Sand channels leading toward the wall feature cleaning stations, grouper, and crabs tucked into the reef, with healthy coral coverage throughout.
The site is conducted as a drift dive, with a gentle current helping divers along. Entry is by boat, and the dive can be tailored to different experience levels, making it suitable for all levels of divers, including beginners.
