The Pinnacles is a reef dive site on the north side of Hook Island in the Whitsundays, characterised by a series of massive coral bommies — including large boulder-shaped Porites corals and towering structures — that rise from the bottom to within a few metres of the surface.
Depths at the site run from 3 metres at the shallowest point to around 18–20 metres at the base, putting the dive comfortably within beginner range. The pinnacles themselves form the main terrain feature, with good coral coverage throughout and an underwater world described as comparable in colour and variety to the outer Great Barrier Reef.
Marine life at the site includes potato cod, flowery cod, turtles, clownfish, parrotfish, and large Maori wrasse, which are resident around the Hook Island bays and are known to approach snorkellers and divers out of curiosity. Manta rays are common during the winter months, making the cooler period from May to September the prime season for visiting.
The site also has an old lighthouse area accessible ashore. Moorings are available, and visibility is generally good. Conditions and marine life here suit beginner divers, though the winter manta season draws more experienced visitors as well.
